How to Prepare Ceremonial Cacao

If this is your first experience with ceremonial cacao, start with 15-20g of cacao per cup. For a deeper ceremonial cacao session, you can use between 35-50g depending on your preference and sensitivity.

Take a piece of ceremonial cacao paste and cut it into smaller chunks using a knife or grate it. You can also use an electric grinder to make preparation easier.

Pour water, plant milk or a mix of both into a pot, depending on how many cups you want to prepare. Gently heat the liquid and add the cacao. It is important not to boil ceremonial cacao, as high temperatures can affect its natural properties. Heat it up to around 60-70°C and stir until the cacao fully dissolves into a smooth cacao drink.

Ceremonial cacao can be enjoyed in many ways.

You can keep it pure or explore different flavours by adding spices such as cinnamon, chilli or a pinch of salt. Find what works best for you and your taste.

Many people enjoy ceremonial cacao not only for its taste, but also as a moment to slow down and reconnect. As you stir your cacao drink, you can simply take a moment to focus on what matters to you, whether that’s clarity, calmness or intention.

Ceremonial cacao is a very individual experience.

Start with a smaller amount and observe how your body responds. Adjust the quantity over time to find what feels right for you.
